George Bernard Shaw, az ír drámaíró fenomén! A naturalizmus egyik legnagyobbika, a 19. század legnagyobb drámaíró egyénisége. Termékeny és sokoldalú író. 1858-ban született, és 1950-ben hunyt el. (The Widowers' Houses)volt, ami nagyon rosszul sikerült az írónak. De sorra fejlődött, és lassan olyan remekművek készültek el, mint például a Warenné mestersége, az ember és felsőbbrendű ember. 1923-ban írta Szent Johanna (Saint Joan) című darabját, amit New Yorkban mutattak be először, aztán Londonban. A darab szinte mindenhol óriási siker volt (és az még ma is), furcsa formája, és hosszú, egyes kritikusok szerint felesleges epilógusa ellenére. Kórházba vitték, majd saját kérésére október 4-én hazavitték. November 2-án halt meg. Az egész világon meggyászolta. A Times vezércikke Shaw halálával foglalkozott; az indiai kormányfő rendkívüli ülést hívott össze; az amerikai Broadwayn leoltották a villanyokat.
